Format and scoring
Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Speaking is a face-to-face interview with a real examiner. Paper-based or computer-delivered.
Band 0–9, reported in half bands.
Computer-delivered results in roughly 3–5 days; paper-based around 13 days.
Fee and acceptance
Academic or General Training on computer about PKR 71,300 – 71,900 depending on city. IELTS for UKVI about PKR 72,000. IELTS Life Skills (A1/B1) about PKR 50,000.

A One Skill Retake is available: if only one section let you down, you can resit that section alone rather than the whole test.

Inside the test
What IELTS actually asks you to do.
Knowing the task types is most of the preparation. These are the ones that decide scores, and the ones our classes drill hardest.
Writing Task 1 asks you to describe a chart, graph or process in 150 words. Task 2 is a 250-word argument essay and carries twice the marks.
Speaking is three parts with a real examiner: familiar questions, a two-minute solo turn from a cue card, then an abstract discussion.
Reading gives you three long passages and 40 questions in 60 minutes with no extra transfer time on computer.
Listening is four recordings that play once only. There is no replay.
Who it suits
Is IELTS the right test for you?
The safest default. Accepted essentially everywhere, and the only test many older or more conservative admissions offices will take without question.
