English throughout, and a clean route to the visa.
Everything is taught in English, the offer-to-visa path is one of the most straightforward we process, and a graduate stay-back option gives you time to find work in a country whose tech, pharmaceutical and finance employers recruit internationally.
What it costs
The money, stated plainly.
Tuition is only part of it. Below is what you pay once, what you pay every month, and what the visa authorities need to see in the bank before they will issue anything.
Tuition & living
€9,000 – €16,000 a year at most institutions, with business and computing at the lower end
€10,000 – €25,000 for a taught master's. Specialist and MBA programmes run considerably higher
€900 – €1,800 a month. Dublin is the number to plan around; Galway, Limerick and Cork run 20 to 30 per cent below it
What the visa requires
€10,000 for living costs, alongside proof that your tuition is paid or deposited. Bank statements are typically expected to cover the preceding six months.
Roughly PKR 3.25 million, alongside proof your tuition is paid or deposited.
Weak or badly-timed financial evidence is the most common avoidable cause of refusal. We build this part of your file first, not last.
Fixed costs
Paid once, or once a year. You can plan these to the rupee.
- Tuition€9,000 – €25,000 a year
- Tuition paid BEFORE the visa€6,000 minimum, and it must show on the Letter of Acceptance. Not optional since 30 June 2025
- Visa application€60 single entry, €100 multiple entry
- Irish Residence Permit€300, on arrival after approval
- Private medical insurance€150 – €500 a year, required for the visa
- IELTS or PTEPKR 60,000 – 70,000
- Attestation to MOFAPKR 5,000 – 15,000. There is no Irish embassy step
- Flights, one wayPKR 160,000 – 260,000
Variable costs
Monthly, and genuinely within your control. City and accommodation choice move these more than anything else.
- Rent€500 – €900 a month sharing in Dublin, €350 – €600 outside it. Arrange it before you fly
- Groceries€250 – €350 a month
- Transport€50 – €90 a month with a Student Leap Card
- Phone, books, personal€80 – €150 a month
- Total, all inAbout €1,000 a month outside Dublin, €1,400 – €1,800 in Dublin
Figures checked August 2026. Rupee conversions use approximate rates at that date (about PKR 375 to the pound, 325 to the euro, 195 to the Australian dollar, 165 to the New Zealand dollar) and are planning figures only, since rates move. Amounts are quoted as ranges because they vary by university, programme and city. Government requirements and university fees change; your counsellor confirms the exact numbers for your shortlist before you commit to anything.
Why Ireland
What makes Ireland worth considering.
Everything in English
No language barrier in class or in daily life, which removes an entire category of risk from the decision.
Graduate stay-back
Eligible graduates can remain to look for work, with the period depending on your qualification level.
Strong employer base
Global technology, pharmaceutical and financial firms have major operations in Ireland and recruit graduates locally.
A cleaner process
Fewer moving parts between offer and visa than several other destinations, which shortens the timeline.
The honest part
What we tell you before you choose Ireland.
Every destination has a trade-off. These are the ones that matter for Ireland, and the reasons we would sometimes steer you somewhere else.
Talk it through with a counsellorAccommodation in Dublin is the number to plan around, and it should be arranged early rather than on arrival.
September is the primary entry point, so the planning calendar is tighter than a two-intake country.
Popular programmes close before the formal deadline. Applying early is not optional here.
Ireland suits students who want an English-speaking country, a predictable process, and access to multinational employers.
Timing
When to apply for Ireland, and why it matters.
Intakes: September, with a smaller January intake at some institutions.
How the year runs
September dominates and popular programmes close well before the published deadline. Ireland rewards early applicants more than almost any other destination we handle.
Three things specific to Ireland
- Dublin accommodation is the real constraint, not tuition. Arrange it before you fly, not after.
- You register for the Irish Residence Permit after arrival, and that fee is separate from the visa.
- English-speaking, EU-based and a genuine tech and pharma employer base. That combination is why demand keeps rising.
Documents & attestation
What you need, and how Pakistan verifies it.
The paperwork below is what a Ireland application runs on. Your counsellor confirms the exact list for your university and checks every document against the others before anything is submitted.
Documents you will need
Academic
- Matric (SSC) and Intermediate (HSSC) certificates and mark sheets
- Bachelor's degree and full transcripts, if applying for a master's
- IBCC equivalence certificate if you studied O-levels or A-levels
- IELTS, PTE or other accepted English test result
Identity
- Passport valid well beyond your intended course end date
- CNIC or B-Form, and your family registration certificate where asked
- Passport-standard photographs to the destination's specification
Financial
- Bank statements covering the period your destination requires
- Bank certificate or maintenance letter from the account holder's bank
- Sponsor's affidavit of support, with proof of their income
- Evidence of the sponsor's income: salary slips, tax returns, business papers
Supporting
- Statement of purpose written for this course, not a template
- Academic or employer reference letters
- Experience letters and CV where the course expects them
- Medical and police documents where Ireland requires them
The attestation chain
Order matters. Skip a step and the next authority sends you back, which is the most common cause of avoidable delay.
Your board verifies Matric and Intermediate certificates; your university verifies your degree and transcripts. Nothing moves until this is done.
The Inter Board Committee of Chairmen attests Matric and Intermediate. If you did O-levels or A-levels, IBCC also issues the equivalence certificate, and that must be finished before attestation.
The Higher Education Commission attests degrees and transcripts. It covers higher education only, not school certificates.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs attests only after HEC or IBCC has stamped the document. Appointments are booked online.
Some destinations accept a MOFA apostille; others still want their own embassy in Pakistan to legalise the document. We confirm which applies to Ireland for your specific documents before you start.
Three things that changed recently
Attestation guidance published even a year ago is now partly wrong. These are the current points that catch people out.
- HEC attestation is now fully digital. The Higher Education Commission moved degree attestation onto an online Degree Attestation System in May 2026, replacing the old in-person and courier route. Older step-by-step guides describing counter visits no longer apply.
- MOFA no longer takes walk-ins. Appointments are booked online, so attestation has to be scheduled into your application timeline rather than done the week before submission.
- O-level and A-level equivalence takes weeks, not days. IBCC equivalence must be complete before attestation can start, and Cambridge result slips are not accepted in place of the certificate. This is the single most underestimated delay in the whole process.
Government processes change. Your counsellor confirms the current requirement and fee for your documents at the time you apply, rather than working from a printed list.
Exclusive to Northbound
The Northbound Scholarship.
A scholarship offered by no other consultant in Pakistan, awarded personally by Northbound, on top of any scholarship your university already offers: up to £1,000.
A full preparation and test-fee refund is also provided to any student who successfully enrols at their chosen university abroad through Northbound.
Enquire about the scholarshipThe visa itself
Ireland: the fee, the insurance, and whether money buys speed.
Three numbers a family needs before committing, and one question almost nobody asks until it is urgent: can you pay to be decided faster? The answer is yes in exactly one of these eight destinations.
Which visa, and what it costs
The Long Stay 'D' study visa, applied for online through AVATS, then documents to the visa office. EUR 60 single entry or EUR 100 multiple entry. After you arrive you register for the Irish Residence Permit, EUR 300 a year, within 90 days. You cannot work until the IRP card is physically in your hand.
The insurance, and where to get it
Private medical insurance is compulsory and must be in place for the visa application itself, not after arrival. Budget EUR 150 to EUR 500 a year. Buy a policy that explicitly states cover in Ireland for the full period; a generic travel policy will not do.
Can you pay to go faster?
No. Ireland sells no priority or fast-track service for study visas at any price. The only lever you have is applying earlier.
What we tell you about it
Because there is no way to buy speed, Ireland punishes late starts harder than anywhere else on this list. Most of the Irish refusals and missed intakes we see would have been avoided by starting six weeks sooner.
Proof of funds
What Ireland actually wants to see, from a Pakistani family.
Every destination asks for money. What differs, and what nobody writes down properly, is who is allowed to hold it, how long it has to have been there, and which Pakistani documents prove where it came from. This is the part we build first on every file, because it is the part that refuses people.
Who is allowed to fund you
You, or a parent or guardian who signs an affidavit of support. Ireland is more relaxed than the UK about who may sponsor, but stricter about how long the money has been there.
The documents, exactly
SIX MONTHS of bank statements, not 28 days. Plus proof that EUR 6,000 of tuition has actually been PAID and appears on your Letter of Acceptance, which has been compulsory since 30 June 2025. Plus a sponsor affidavit and relationship proof if the account is not yours, private medical insurance, and your attestation chain completed to MOFA. There is no Irish embassy attestation step, which trips people up constantly.
FBR returns and the NTN
Not formally required, but six months of statements means six months of explainable movement. In Pakistan your CNIC IS your NTN for individual filing, so you do not need a separate number. The FBR tax year runs 1 July to 30 June and the return is filed on the IRIS portal with a wealth statement attached. Returns for the last two to three years are what a visa officer uses to test whether a claimed income is real. A salary certificate from the employer, or business registration and accounts for a self-employed sponsor, does the same job and is worth preparing.
What will not be accepted
Property, gold and prize bonds are not accepted. Neither is a balance that only appeared in the last month, however large.
The one thing that refuses people
Applying too late. Ireland's weakness for Pakistani students is timing, not difficulty. Most of the refusals we see here would have been avoidable with a start six weeks earlier.
Checked August 2026. Thresholds and document rules change without notice, and the rupee figure moves with the rate. We confirm every number against the current official guidance before you submit, and we never ask you to move money until the file is ready for it.
Thirteen questions
Everything a family asks about Ireland, answered.
The questions we get asked most, in one place. Where we hold a figure we give it and date it. Where the answer genuinely varies, or where nobody publishes it, we say so instead of filling the gap. 10 of these 13 are researched, the rest we will confirm in writing for your specific university.
Timing
1How many intakes, and when
Two. September is the main intake and January the second. September 2026 is effectively closed to visa-required Pakistani applicants; January 2027 is the live target.
2When applications open and close
Applications open around 10 months ahead. For January 2027, apply between May and August 2026. Griffith, IBAT, NCI and TU Dublin are the usual January options.
3How long the whole process takes
Offer in 2 to 4 weeks. Then €6,000 tuition must be paid and appear on the Letter of Acceptance before the visa can even be filed. Visa decision typically 4 to 8 weeks. Allow 4 to 5 months.
Applying
4Application feesvaries
Most institutions charge nothing at postgraduate level. Some private colleges charge €50 to €100.
5Documents needed to apply for admission
Academic certificates and transcripts, English test, passport, CV, statement of purpose, references. Hague Apostille route: the chain ENDS at MOFA. There is no Irish embassy attestation step, which trips people up constantly.
6Typical business fees, bachelor's and master'svaries
Bachelor's in business €10,000 to €16,000 a year; master's €12,000 to €20,000. Confirm with the specific institution. Irish fees vary more by college than by subject.
Money
7Bank statement: how much, held how long
€10,000 living costs SHOWN, plus €6,000 tuition actually PAID before you apply. Six months of statements. That is a floor of about PKR 5.12 million, so budget 5.4 to 5.6 million.
8Which money counts as proof of funds
Liquid funds with a clear history. Property, gold and prize bonds are not accepted. Six months of statements means six months of explainable movement, not a balance that appeared last week.
9Initial deposit, and whether paying more helps
€6,000 of tuition, and it is not optional. Since 30 June 2025 it must be paid and shown on the Letter of Acceptance BEFORE the visa application. Paying beyond that does not improve the outcome.
The visa
10Where the visa is applied for, and by whom
The student applies online through AVATS, then submits documents to the Irish visa office. Biometrics and passport submission through the appointed centre in Pakistan.
11Visa outcomes for Pakistani applicantsnot confirmed
Ireland does not publish study visa outcomes by nationality, so any percentage you are quoted for Pakistan is invented. What we can tell you is that refusals cluster on unexplained funds and weak course logic.
12Do some universities make the visa easier?
No. The visa is decided by the Irish immigration service on your documents, not by the college's reputation. What genuinely differs is which colleges have January places left.
13What a strong application actually looks like
Six clean months of statements in the student's or a parent's name, the €6,000 paid and documented, a course that follows on from the last one, and attestation completed to MOFA. Ireland's weakness is timing, not difficulty. Most Pakistani refusals here are avoidable with an earlier start.
Checked August 2026. Visa rules, fees and thresholds change without notice. We re-check every figure before you apply, and we will put the answer for your specific university in writing. Compare all eight destinations on these same thirteen questions.
Already hold a bachelor’s?
Applying to Ireland after a 4-year degree.
A one-year taught master’s directly, with no diploma year in between, and twenty-four months of work afterwards. The full year-one cost in rupees, the seventeen institutions we reach, and the money rule that runs the opposite way to everywhere else.
