Study in Ireland after a 4-year bachelor’s from Pakistan
Ireland treats your four-year HEC degree as equivalent to an Irish honours bachelor’s, which opens the one-year taught master’s directly with no diploma year in between. It is the cleanest fit of any destination we handle. The catch is the money, and it runs the opposite way to everywhere else.
Ireland is built for the qualification you already hold. A four-year HEC-recognised bachelor’s is assessed as comparable to an Irish Level 8 honours degree, which is precisely the entry requirement for a Level 9 taught master’s. You go straight into a one-year programme.
That is worth pausing on, because it is not true elsewhere. In New Zealand the same degree sits a level lower and the one-year master’s is usually closed to you. In the United Kingdom you get the one-year master’s but only eighteen months of work afterwards from January 2027. Ireland gives you both: one year of study and twenty-four months of work.
Where your degree lands.
| What you are aiming for | Length | Open to you? |
|---|---|---|
| Taught master’s, Level 9 The standard route | 1 year | Yes, directly. Most institutions want a 2.1 equivalent, roughly 60%. Several on our panel accept 55%. |
| Postgraduate Diploma, Level 9 Often articulates into the master’s | 1 year | Yes, directly. Useful where your CGPA sits below the master’s bar or your subject is changing. |
| PhD, Level 10 Research | 3 to 4 years | Not yet. A Pakistani master’s is accepted as the basis for entry, so this comes after the master’s, not instead of it. |
| A three-year Pakistani bachelor’s For contrast | n/a | Usually short. Only a handful of private colleges consider it. The four-year degree is the one Ireland is built around. |
Stamp 1G runs 24 months after a Level 9 master’s and only 12 months after a Level 8 qualification. That is a full extra year of work permission for exactly the same visa effort. And from 2026, generally only Level 9 and above can bring a spouse or children. If you are married, that is not a preference, it is the whole decision.
What your file has to contain.
Academic and attestation
- A four-year HEC-recognised bachelor’s, typically at 60%, though several institutions accept 55%.
- Your degree and transcripts attested through HEC and then the MOFA apostille.
- The chain ends at MOFA. Ireland is a Hague Convention country and Pakistan acceded in March 2023, so there is no Irish embassy legalisation step. Anyone sending you to the embassy is costing you weeks for nothing.
- MOFA has been appointment-only online since 27 July 2026. Register and book early; it is the quiet bottleneck.
English
- IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in each band is the standard postgraduate requirement.
- The University of Galway asks 6.5 with no band below 5.5, the most forgiving band rule on the panel. It rescues a great many Pakistani scoresheets that fail everywhere else on a 5.5 in one skill.
- The technological universities accept 6.0 overall on some programmes where the research universities want 6.5.
- University College Dublin accepts Duolingo 120 with 110 subscores. Most others do not.
Money, and Ireland's rule is unlike anywhere else
There are two separate tests and they are assessed independently. First, immediate access to EUR 10,000 for your first year’s living costs, evidenced on six months of statements. Second, since 30 June 2025, a minimum of EUR 6,000 of tuition paid to the institution before the visa is granted, with the receipt visible on your acceptance letter.
Money paid as tuition cannot be counted again toward the EUR 10,000. Adding it to your available funds inflates the file and invites a manual review you do not want. Property, gold, plots, prize bonds and investments are not accepted. Liquid funds only.
Health, insurance and registration
- No TB test and no medical examination. This is UK advice carried across wrongly, and families are sent to IOM clinics for nothing.
- Private medical insurance is mandatory: minimum EUR 25,000 accident and EUR 25,000 disease cover, usually EUR 150 to 500 through a college scheme.
- IRP registration is EUR 300 a year, card payment only, within 90 days of arrival.
- No work until the IRP card is physically in your hand. Know that before you land, not after.
The visa and work rights
- D Study visa: EUR 60 single entry, EUR 100 multiple. Applied for through AVATS, then documents and biometrics at VFS in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi.
- Processing runs four to eight weeks, and Ireland refuses any application lodged within 21 working days of the course start date.
- Stamp 2 during study: 20 hours a week in term, 40 hours from June to September and from 15 December to 15 January.
- Stamp 1G after: 24 months following a Level 9 master’s.
Ireland takes the money first, and that is the opposite of New Zealand.
This is the single most important thing to understand, because the sequence decides how much you are risking. New Zealand approves your visa in principle and then asks for tuition. Ireland requires the tuition receipt as part of the application. If the visa is refused, the money is already with the college, and getting it back depends entirely on that college’s refund policy.
Conditions met, unconditional letter issued.
EUR 6,000 minimum, or the full fee if it is lower. Where tuition runs above EUR 12,000 many institutions want 50%. The acceptance letter must explicitly show the payment received. A letter without it is a refusal waiting to happen.
Six months of statements, liquid, source documented. This is not the money you just paid the college.
Documents and biometrics. Four to eight weeks, and never inside 21 working days of your start date.
On a refusal there is an eight-week appeal window, but your tuition sits with the college in the meantime.
Degree-level applicants can lodge a EUR 10,000 education bond with an approved provider instead of showing the living costs in a personal account. It stays in place from the visa application until you register with immigration, and you draw it down after arriving. For a family whose money is real but whose six-month statement looks uneven, this turns the weakest part of the file into the strongest. Additional evidence may still be asked for; it is an alternative, not an exemption.
What one year actually costs.
Worked on a mid-band placement at roughly EUR 14,000 tuition, which covers Griffith, MTU, Maynooth and the lower half of Galway and UCC. Converted at EUR 1 = PKR 320. The living-cost line is evidenced, not spent here.

It was the standard Ireland number for years and it is now below the requirement. EUR 6,000 of tuition plus EUR 10,000 of living costs is EUR 16,000, which is PKR 5.12 million before a single application fee, insurance premium, attestation or airfare. The realistic floor is PKR 5.4 to 5.6 million, and higher wherever tuition exceeds EUR 12,000. Anyone quoting you the old number is setting you up to run out halfway.
Scholarships, honestly.
Ireland has nothing resembling the automatic partner discounts you may have been shown for the United Kingdom. There is one national award that genuinely matters and a thin institutional layer underneath it.
A EUR 10,000 stipend plus a full tuition and registration fee waiver for one year at Level 9 or 10. It is the most valuable award available to a Pakistani applicant anywhere in Ireland. Roughly sixty awards nationally each year, all disciplines, non-EU applicants only. Trinity applies its own filter favouring applicants from lower-middle income countries, which Pakistan qualifies under. You must already hold a course offer to apply, and the call typically closes in early March, so your admission application has to run months ahead of the scholarship deadline.
- Maynooth EUR 1,000 to 5,000, assessed automatically with no separate application.
- National College of Ireland merit awards to EUR 5,000.
- South East Technological University entry awards EUR 1,000 to 4,000.
- Build your budget with no award in it. And note that a fee waiver does not touch the EUR 10,000, which has to be evidenced in full regardless. The Government of Ireland stipend is paid in two instalments after you arrive, so it cannot serve as visa evidence either.
- Watch the fee escalators, not just the awards. Galway charges EUR 5,140 to repeat a year and a EUR 200 late-payment penalty. MTU locks your first-year fee for the whole programme. Those are worth more to a family than most of the scholarships on this list.
September 2026 has gone. Plan January or September 2027.
Between closed admissions, four to eight weeks of visa processing and the rule barring any application lodged within 21 working days of the start date, September 2026 is not reachable for a visa-required Pakistani applicant. Two live targets remain, and they lead to different institutions.
| Intake | Where it runs | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| January 2027 Apply now | Griffith College, IBAT, National College of Ireland and TU Dublin | Applications and the offer need settling through August and September 2026, tuition paid and the visa lodged by early October. This is a Dublin-only track, so budget for Dublin rent. |
| September 2027 Apply from October 2026 | Galway, Limerick, UCC, MTU Cork, Maynooth, DCU, Trinity and UCD | Better cities, a better fee-to-quality ratio, and enough time to enter the Government of Ireland scholarship round closing in early March 2027. For most applicants with a four-year bachelor’s this is the better track, and the extra wait buys a materially better placement. |
HEC then the MOFA apostille, running in parallel with your applications. MOFA appointments are the quiet bottleneck.
Application fees are modest or nil at most of our panel, so there is no reason to file one application and hope.
Check whether your deposit counts toward the EUR 6,000. At most institutions it does.
An acceptance letter that does not state the payment received is the commonest reason a well-funded Irish file is refused.
Four to eight weeks. Never inside 21 working days of your course start.
No employment is lawful until the IRP card is physically issued.

Atlantic Technological University, the Technological University of the Shannon, Dundalk Institute of Technology and Dublin Business School are all reachable through our channels, but we hold no confirmed fee, entry or deposit data for them. Rather than publish a plausible number, we have left them blank and we will get the figures from the institution if one of them is right for you.
Which one is right for you.
Weighed on four things: a fee a Pakistani middle-income family can actually fund, an entry bar your profile clears, a city that is liveable and affordable, and a file that reads credibly to a visa officer. In Ireland one factor dominates all of them, and it is Dublin rent. Most of the panel sits in the capital, and that is where your EUR 10,000 disappears fastest.
| If this is you | Where we would point you | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want the best value on the whole panel | University of Limerick Limerick · September 2027 | Postgraduate tuition from EUR 9,700, which is university teaching at private-college prices, and a deposit of EUR 600 against Griffith’s EUR 7,500. Entry from 55%. Limerick is a real student city with rents far below Dublin and an established Muslim community. |
| Your IELTS has one weak band | University of Galway Galway · September 2027 | 6.5 with no band below 5.5, the most forgiving English rule here, and it rescues the scoresheet that fails everywhere else on a 5.5 in writing. Entry 55 to 60%, deposit EUR 500 to 1,000. Galway is the best student city in Ireland on quality of life. Watch the EUR 5,140 repeat-year charge. |
| You want protection from mid-course fee rises | Munster Technological University Cork · September 2027 | A flat EUR 13,500 to 15,000 with the first-year fee locked for the whole programme, which nothing else here offers. IELTS from 6.0 on some programmes. Cork is Ireland’s second city with a real graduate job market in pharma and tech. |
| You cannot wait eight months | IBAT College Dublin Dublin · January 2027 | The cheapest postgraduate tuition on the panel at EUR 9,500 to 11,000, which partly offsets Dublin rent. Entry 55%, IELTS 6.0 to 6.5. Be clear-eyed about Dublin: accommodation is the binding constraint, not tuition. |
Griffith College asks a EUR 7,500 deposit, roughly ten times what the universities want, for a EUR 14,000 programme. A family that can fund Griffith can usually fund Limerick or Galway with far less exposed upfront. National College of Ireland and TU Dublin both set the deposit at 50% or EUR 6,000, pitched deliberately to clear the immigration minimum, which is fine for the visa and punishing on the household. UCD and Trinity want a 2.1 and charge EUR 22,600 to 38,100. They are the right answer for a genuinely strong applicant and the wrong one for an average four-year bachelor’s.
Questions we get asked.
Can I do a one-year master's in Ireland after a four-year Pakistani bachelor's?
Yes, and this is Ireland's strongest argument. Your four-year HEC-recognised degree is assessed as comparable to an Irish Level 8 honours bachelor's, which is the direct entry qualification for a Level 9 taught master's. You walk into a one-year programme with no diploma year in between. Most institutions want roughly 60%; several accept 55%.
How much money do I need for an Irish student visa?
Two separate amounts, assessed independently. EUR 10,000 for the first year's living costs, evidenced on six months of statements. And a minimum of EUR 6,000 of tuition actually paid to the college before the visa is decided, with the receipt shown on your acceptance letter. Money paid as tuition cannot be counted again toward the EUR 10,000.
Do I have to pay tuition before the visa decision?
Yes, and this is the opposite of New Zealand. Since 30 June 2025 a minimum of EUR 6,000 must be paid to the institution before the visa is granted, and it must appear on the acceptance letter. If the visa is refused, that money is already with the college and getting it back depends on that college's refund policy. Ask for the refund policy in writing before you transfer anything.
Do I need a TB test or a medical for Ireland?
No. There is no TB test and no medical examination for the Irish student visa. This is UK advice that gets carried across wrongly, and families are sent to IOM clinics for no reason. What you do need is private medical insurance with minimum EUR 25,000 accident and EUR 25,000 disease cover.
How long can I stay and work after graduating?
Stamp 1G gives 24 months after a Level 9 master's, against 12 months after a Level 8 qualification. That is a full extra year of work permission for the same visa effort, and it is why the master's rather than a diploma is worth pushing for. From 2026, generally only Level 9 and above can bring a spouse or children.
Is September 2026 still possible?
No. Between closed admissions, four to eight weeks of visa processing, and the rule barring any application lodged within 21 working days of the course start, September 2026 is not reachable for a visa-required Pakistani applicant. January 2027 runs at four Dublin institutions; September 2027 opens the universities.
Ireland is the best structural fit for a four-year Pakistani bachelor’s of any destination we handle: one year of study, twenty-four months of work afterwards, and no diploma year in between. What it asks in return is that you put EUR 6,000 at risk before anybody has decided your visa. If your funds are genuine and documented, take it. If your bank history is the weak part of your file, look at the education bond before you look at another country.
Figures are the 2026/27 non-EU postgraduate terms on file, converted at EUR 1 = PKR 320, and reviewed August 2026. Tuition, deposits, the living-cost threshold and the minimum tuition rule change without notice; we confirm each one against the institution and the Irish Immigration Service before it reaches you in writing.

Questions
Asked and answered.
What English score do I need?
IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in each band is the standard postgraduate requirement. The University of Galway asks 6.5 with no band below 5.5, which is the most forgiving rule on the panel and rescues a lot of Pakistani scoresheets. Some technological university programmes accept 6.0 overall.
Are there scholarships?
One that genuinely matters: the Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship, a EUR 10,000 stipend plus a full tuition waiver for one year at Level 9 or 10, with roughly 60 awards nationally. You must already hold a course offer to apply, and the call typically closes in early March. The institutional layer beyond that is thin, so build your budget with no award in it.
