Qatar suits a specific student: one who wants an internationally recognised degree close to home, often with family already in the Gulf, and without a twelve-hour flight between them and Lahore. Qatar University holds 109th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2027, which places it ahead of most institutions in this guide outside the UK and Australia.
Alongside Qatar University, several international universities operate full branch campuses in Doha’s Education City, awarding home-institution degrees. Places are limited and admission is competitive, so this is not a fallback destination.
Top-ranked universities and where they are.

Education City hosts a number of international branch campuses awarding the same degree as their home university. Which programmes run in any given year changes, so confirm current offerings with your counsellor rather than relying on an older list.
Where students actually live.
Doha is effectively the whole answer. Qatar University sits in the city at 109th in the world, and Education City hosts the international branch campuses on a single purpose-built site.
Living costs run roughly QAR 2,000 to 4,000 a month, and on-campus housing is available at both Qatar University and several Education City institutions. That matters more than it sounds: it removes the accommodation hunt that causes most of the stress for students heading to Dublin or Amsterdam.
The practical argument for Doha is proximity. A two to three hour flight from Pakistan against eleven or more to the UK means you can come home for Eid without a fortnight's planning and a fortune in airfare.
What it costs in 2026.
The process, in the order it actually happens.
Spring entry exists but is limited. Apply early, because places are genuinely constrained.
Ask what a normal full-time load costs across a year, not just the headline rate.
Merit and need-based awards exist and are worth pursuing at the same time, not later.
This simplifies the visa considerably compared with most destinations here.
Facts worth knowing.
- Qatar University’s 109th place puts it ahead of every institution in this guide from Ireland except Trinity and UCD.
- A two to three hour flight from Pakistan, against eleven or more to the UK and far longer to Australia or New Zealand.
- The Gulf region was one of the areas QS identified as rising fastest in the 2027 rankings.
- On-campus housing removes the accommodation search that causes most of the stress in Dublin or Amsterdam.
The honest part.
Qatar has limited places and competitive admission, and the graduate job market is smaller and more sector-specific than the Western destinations. It is an excellent fit for students with family in the Gulf or a clear sector target, and a poor fit for students who simply want to go somewhere abroad.
Rankings cited are the QS World University Rankings 2027, published 18 June 2026. Tuition, living costs and proof-of-funds figures were checked in August 2026 and are stated as planning ranges, not quotes; government requirements and university fees change without notice. Rupee conversions use approximate rates at that date and move with the market. Your counsellor confirms every figure for your specific shortlist before you commit to anything.
