Study in Cyprus in 2026: An Honest Guide for Pakistani Students

An EU degree at a fraction of Western European cost, with one distinction that most guides get wrong and that changes everything about recognition.

Updated August 20266 min readRankings QS 2027

Cyprus is where we place students who need an EU-recognised degree on a budget that will not stretch to the UK or Ireland. Merit scholarships are common and frequently decide whether a course is affordable at all. Teaching is in English and class sizes are small.

There is one thing you must understand before you compare any figures, and most published guides get it wrong. The Republic of Cyprus and Northern Cyprus are not the same for cost, for recognition, or for your visa. Guides routinely blend institutions from both into a single table. A degree from one is an EU qualification; a degree from the other is not recognised the same way in most of the world.

Top-ranked universities and where they are.

The University of Cyprus ranks first nationally on academic reputation, employer reputation, employment outcomes and sustainability. Cyprus University of Technology sits in the top eight per cent of the 8,808 institutions QS evaluated worldwide.

Where students actually live.

Nicosia is the capital and holds the University of Cyprus at 525th, first among all institutions evaluated on the island. It is inland, and it is where most of the academic weight sits.

Limassol is the coastal commercial centre and holds Cyprus University of Technology in the 701 to 710 band, along with the University of Limassol, one of our partner institutions. Living costs are low by European standards in both cities, with accommodation the main variable.

One point bears repeating because it is the thing most guides blur: institutions in Northern Cyprus are in a different jurisdiction with different recognition. Before you compare any two Cypriot universities on cost, confirm which side of the line each one sits on.

What it costs in 2026.

The process, in the order it actually happens.

1
Confirm which part of the island the university is in

Ask this first, in writing, before you look at anything else. It determines recognition, cost and your visa route.

2
Ask about the merit award at application

Cyprus scholarships are usually applied at offer stage. A 25 or 50 per cent reduction changes the affordability calculation entirely.

3
Check progression plans early

Some students use Cyprus for a first degree and transfer to the UK or Ireland for a master’s. That works well if planned from the start.

4
Attest documents on the same chain

IBCC or HEC, then MOFA, as with every destination in this guide.

Facts worth knowing.

  • Three Cypriot institutions appear in the QS World University Rankings, out of roughly twenty operating on the island.
  • Teaching across the main universities is in English, so no additional language is required.
  • Cyprus is an EU member state, so a Republic of Cyprus degree carries EU recognition.
  • Class sizes are small compared with large UK or Australian universities, which suits students who want direct access to faculty.

The honest part.

What we would tell you in the room

We have deliberately published no tuition figure on this page. Every source we checked blended Republic of Cyprus and Northern Cyprus institutions into one table, and printing an average of the two would be worse than printing nothing. Your counsellor quotes the real figure for the specific university you are considering.

Rankings cited are the QS World University Rankings 2027, published 18 June 2026. Tuition, living costs and proof-of-funds figures were checked in August 2026 and are stated as planning ranges, not quotes; government requirements and university fees change without notice. Rupee conversions use approximate rates at that date and move with the market. Your counsellor confirms every figure for your specific shortlist before you commit to anything.
